Jim Carnes Portrait

 

 

Jim went to Penn State.  After the Navy he entered Princeton University for a PhD in electrical engineering.  In 1969 Jim joined RCA Laboratories in Princeton and did research work on novel semiconductor devices. In 1978 he transferred to RCA in Indianapolis and became VP, Television Design.  In 1987 he returned to the Labs in Princeton, which by then was an independent company, Sarnoff Corporation.  In 1990 Jim became President and CEO there until he retired in June 2002.  During that period he was directly involved in developing the new digital HDTV standard for the U.S.    In 1977 Jim married Nancy Zolto and they have one daughter, Gillian.  They currently divide their time between State College, PA, and Bradenton, FL.
